Who We Are
The Metropolitan Entertainment & Convention Authority (MECA) is a non-profit organization overseeing public event venues in Omaha, Nebraska. Established on August 25, 2000, through a long-term agreement with the City of Omaha, MECA played a key role in the construction of the $291 million CHI Health Center Omaha. The project was funded through a public-private partnership, with the private sector contributing $75 million and the public sector $216 million.
CHI Health Center Omaha opened in 2003. Less than a decade later, another public-private partnership led to the creation of a new home for the NCAA Division I Men’s College World Series.
In 2009, MECA broke ground on the new ballpark in north downtown Omaha, and Charles Schwab Field Omaha hosted its first Men’s College World Series in June 2011.
Then in 2019, MECA was invited to oversee development of The RiverFront, a park renovation project designed to revitalize downtown Omaha. Today, MECA continues to manage and maintain these facilities, with dedicated teams ensuring their ongoing activation and success.
